Master Blender’s Reserve 2023 is a richer, weightier blend from Master Blender Oliver Chilton, who sought to create a profile closer to the original Navy rum, prioritising a heavier mouthfeel.
As always, he has placed his own signature on the liquid; this year, he included a rum from Grenada, distilled in 1993, to add depth and accentuate rich orange oil notes.
Casks were selected from Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, and Guyana. A higher proportion of Guyanese rum was included in this year’s release; the thick liquorice and muscovado notes of this component help recreate the unique flavour profiles exhibited over half a century ago. These were then married and layered with our perpetual reserve from Master Blender’s Reserve 2022, alongside a few hand-selected flagons of original Navy rum from 1970.
